You rendition of Debussy's Reflets dan l'eau is the best I have ever heard. This is my favourite song by Debussy. Thank you so much.

I attended the first half of your recent Mannes Faculty recital. I was worried that I had parked my car illegally and might get a $115 ticket, so I decided to leave. Also, much as I like Ravel, I thought it might be anti-climactic after your magnificent renditions of the first half, especially the Chopin. Inspiring! I also enjoyed the Clementi sonata very much and am starting to realize why Horowitz appreciated and performed Clementi. During my childhood piano lessons, he had a rep as a sort of hack. Maybe the pieces that were assigned--I think my sister played one-- were not his best.
In any case, I have been a regular attendee of the IKIF for a number of summers and would be great to hear you there, but perhaps your summers are tied up with other engagements. I am an amateur musician, a member of the St. Cecilia Chorus since 1975. I also sang in the Chorus at Columbia in 1953-57 and later in 1974-76. Choral music is inspiring but by far my favorite "instrument" is the piano. Incidentally I know Harris Goldsmith, having first met him through a fellow student, violinist Dick Simon at Manhattan School of Music in 1953 to around '56. Over the years I followed his writing and occasionally met him at musical events. He usually expresses his opinion to me of performances during the IKIF festival.
Please add me to any mailing list you have regarding future performances.

I am embarrassed to say that, though I'm from Long Island, I've never head you play in person. But I have enjoyed your recordings of the Beach/Corigliano Violin Sonatas, Schubert, Beethoven/Diabelli.
And your modernist disk is spectacular. I am slaving away at the Barber Fugue and, I swear to gosh, yours is the only recording I can find which comes close to capturing all the right notes, let alone the style and mood of the movement. I may never make it that far but, hearing you do I, I must at least try.
In everything, you interpret with ease and insight, all the while taking cues from every detail in the score. We need many more musicians like you. Or at the very least, you should record some more, now that you're done with your Broadway tour of duty.
Cheers,
Ben Malkevitch

When I saw your name in "Listen" Magazine in the story about the "33 Variations," I thought, "I KNOW Diane Walsh from some previous life." And so this query:
Did you perform, perhaps under the Young Artists umbrella, in Birmingham, Alabama in the mid-to-late 70's or early 80's? I was music director, then program director for the public radio station WBHM in Birmingham. We - well, I, mostly - recorded many recitals and concerts, including the Alabama Symphony Orchestra series. What I can't recall is whether I either recorded your recital or interviewed you.
Such minutiae in the extensive memorabilia of your wonderful career may be hard to recall, given the venues in which you've appeared. Thanks for reading.

I've been playing your 'Schubert Sonata in A Minor' over and over again. It's the best interpretation of this piece that I have ever heard! I'm only thirteen and I've been trying to play this piece as well. I'm hoping to be as good as you. :D

How wonderful your 'Reflets dans l'eau'. I've just heard it and felt free after weeping like a sissie.
Congratulations, madam!

We came to NYC for a number of events, during this final week of your "run" in 33 Variations, and especially enjoyed Diane Walsh's work as Music Director and Pianist in this production..!! My hat is off to you, as one who has heard (and played) much Beethoven, over the years. I was moved, more than once, in this performance, of Monday night..! (we're doing the Cliburn competition, this week, in Ft. Worth, you know..) RS

Dear Ms. Walsh,
May I congratulate all of you on your Tony Nominations -- absolutley splendid playing and performances; I am a creator and a composer of a new music -media platform.
Hats off to David Binder (i know David from my work with him 15 years ago) for having the vision to pick the best talent to execute Beethoven's vision.
BTW, my platform was made with Ms. Fonda in mind, this masterful "33 variations" stage work only cements my hopeful intent-- Hope her agent, jeff at CAA ( my former agency) will get the film script/book to her soon!
In the interim, I am off to buy YOUR CD and spread the message!

WOW! You were WONDERFUL today (4/4/09 @ 2:00)!!! Great play and Jane Fonda was excellent. I went back to the theatre just before the 8:00 show to get your cd, but the ticket man was very unfriendly and would not let me get in. Best laid plans of mice and men are often foiled by rigid ticket collectors. Anyway, about to purchase on itunes. Thanks again for a great experience - your performance has been with me all day.

Hi Diane,
I saw 33 Variations last night with 2 friends and we all LOVED it! 2 of us are active chamber musicians and we thought your playing was just fantastic. I've heard you over the years & you are an exquisite musician. The most interesting coincidence happened when I got home last night - I had an email out of the blue from my college roommate who will be interviewing you on Sunday for the radio broadcast about your upcoming Vermont recital. She was asking me if I knew about the play! Needless to say, I told her how fantastic it was and that she should come to NYC to see it this spring. Many thanks for your superb musicianship. I will be telling my friends to go see the play. It was quite moving and inspiring.
All the best,
Arlene Hajinlian

I attended the March 15th matinee of 33 Variations. You were the best performance of all. But I swear I've seen you before. Did you ever participate in The Music from Salem series in upstate NY? I think I saw you many years ago there.

Dear Diane, I am a concert pianist and writer on music, who yesterday (Jan. 11) attended the matinee of "33 Variations." It was very moving, and your playing, as I expected, was beautiful. Your lyrical touch is most inspiring. I also was impressed that you were able to "excerpt" such a large organism without making any part of it suffer. And when you had to play in a "background-y" way, it STILL had full integrity. Bravo! and Thank you. Sincerely, Frank Daykin

Dear Ms Walsh,
Read the review appearing in the NYTimes. Heard/watched some of your performing on YouTube (Schubert Sonata in A Minor Op. 42, D. 84). Delectable.
Thank you for a sensitive rendition.
Cheers from Berlin,

Hi Diane,
My daughter and I were on the aisle in the second row left orch yesterday afternoon and loved the show. You are very talented, I was very happy to see that your cd was available in the lobby as we were leaving the theater. We bought two copies, one for my daughter and one for me. What a great afternoon, thank you.

Dear Diane,
I've been following your career since I heard you on WNYC and won tickets to see you play at Miller Theatre. Many people will go to see Jane Fonda in the new show but my wife and I (as well as my kid, a Mannes prep graduate) went to hear you. The play has many things that could use some work but your playing remains flawless.
By the way, what exactly is a 'baseball waltz'? We'll have to ask Ted Turner.

Diane-I think you are the Diane Walsh I studied piano with back around 1973 before I moved to North Carolina. I saw a Diane Walsh in the movie credits of Mr. Magorium's (spelling?) Magic Emporium, and thought it might be you, and it also made me think of you. We're both a bit older now, but your pictures look like the Diane Walsh I remember. If not, my apologies-Steve Walsh

Ms. Walsh: I just heard you play Brahms tonight at the Amnesty, Inc. concert, Mannes School in Manhattan. Your mastery of technique is exciting, and the relaxed, comprehensive, mature understanding of the music moved me. I plan to hear as many of your concerts as possible.
